The marking screen

This is where the time goes, so it is built for one thumb in a noisy room.

First, who is here. A new test opens with the class list. Tap anyone who was absent, then Start marking. Absent children are skipped while you mark and left out of class figures, never counted as zero. You can still mark someone absent later.

  • By question (the default): you see question 1 and the first child. Tap A, B, C or D, and the next child comes up. After the last child, question 2 starts. This is fastest when you go through a pile of answer sheets one question at a time.
  • By student: one child at a time, every question in turn. Best when you have one sheet in your hand.
  • Left blank records that the child did not answer (it scores zero). Absent marks the child absent for the whole test.
  • Undo steps back through your last taps, one at a time, and puts you back where you were.
  • The strip under the name shows the whole row or column. Tap any box to jump to it. See all marks opens the full grid of every child and question; tap any box there to change it.
  • Every tap is saved on the phone at once. Close the app in the middle, or let the battery die: when you come back, Today offers to continue where you stopped.
  • On a computer, the keys A–D (or 1–4), R and W, space for blank, X for absent, Z to undo and the arrow keys all work.

Rubrics show one child at a time with every criterion and its level descriptors. Tap a level for each criterion and add a short note if you like; the note appears on the report card.
