Getting started
- Open kaksha.quartifex.com/app once while you have internet. The app saves itself on the phone as it loads.
- The first time, it asks for your language, then takes you through four short steps: about you (your name is optional; it goes on report cards), your first class (class, section, year and the subjects you teach it), your students (type names, paste a list from WhatsApp or a spreadsheet, or start with roll numbers only) and keeping it safe (an optional PIN and how often to remind you to back up). There is no account and no email.
- Install it (see Put it on your phone) so it opens from your home screen like any other app. Chrome on Android also offers a button for this on the last setup screen.
- Make a test: an answer key (A to D), right-or-wrong questions or a rubric, or start from one of the examples.
- Mark: say who is absent, then tap each child's answer. The app moves on by itself.
The app has four tabs: Today (what to do next), Classes, Insights (across tests) and More (backup, PIN, language and help).
Working offline. After the first visit, nothing in the app needs the internet: not opening it, not marking, not reports or backups. A small piece of code called a service worker keeps a copy of the app on the phone and serves it from there. When we publish a new version, the phone fetches it the next time it is online, and switches to it once every copy of the app is closed, so a marking session is never interrupted.
Keep your data safe. Your marks live only in this phone's browser. If the phone is lost, reset, or the browser's data is cleared, they are gone. Make a backup now and then (Backup and new phones); Today reminds you when one is due.
